Those of you who know me know that as much as I love animals, I’m a total dog person. I do, however, enjoy kitty snuggles when the opportunity presents itself.
Some friends of ours on the Island are moving back to Edmonton this month…sad for us. Their daughter absolutely loves their cat, Butter, and she also loves purple more than anyone, so I figured I’d combine the two and give this portrait a try as a little going-away gift.
Turns out cats are tough! I kept tweaking until I was happy.

Got the shapes in but he didn’t look quite right:
The good but also tricky thing with oil is it takes a long time to dry…so it allows me to keep massaging the shapes, but also lets me get carried away. Here I tweaked a little too far, until he started looking like Garfield…
Third round was getting closer.
Final touches and here he is!
